Description

This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff.

  • Program Leader Packaging Rules The successful assessment outcome for issuance of a full qualification to achieve the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is a total of 28 units of competencies including:
  • 23 compulsory units
  • 5 elective units Units of competency Code Title Core/ Elective Target Group The target group for this qualification is existing workers in the industry who require skills in planning, implementing and managing programs in early childhood education and care services in accordance with legislative requirements in a centre-based service or family day care. Or Existing childcare educators wanting to increase their formal care skills and knowledge as they relate to their area of employment. Duration Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) Students will have access to RPL and CT services as part of the registration process Credit Transfer (CT)
  • Students will be required to complete a CT Application Form and submit along with evidence
  • Students will receive a CT Outcome letter which includes the right to appeal
  • CT will be awarded and recorded on transcripts for all accredited units with the identical code for which the student can provide verifiable evidence of competency as trained by another RTO RPL
  • RPL will be determined through an RPL process in which the student will be required to provide a range of verifiable and relevant evidence covering previous training, experience and life skills which leads an assessor to assess competence
  • Students will be required to complete an RPL Application Form and will be contacted by an assessor.
  • Students will be provide with a Candidate RPL Guide and required to complete and submit along with evidence
  • Students will receive an RPL Outcome letter which includes the right to appeal
  • RPL will be awarded and recorded on transcripts Reasonable adjustment Our commitment is to maximise the ability of all students to achieve their vocational outcomes. This will allow us to make an informed decision as to whether adequate support can be provided for the applicant before an offer of a place at our training facility is issued. For all accepted students requiring individual support, we will arrange for the required individual support to be available. This might include (depending on the nature of the support required):
  • sign language interpreters • readers and scribes • assistive technology
  • alternative assessment/training modes
  • ease of access
  • mobility assistance
  • extra tutoring
  • flexible timetables
  • support person If there is a cost involved this will be communicated to the student prior to the support being organized Further there might be instances in which SMTB cannot or is not permitted (under licensing rules) to provide the support In this instance an offer of a place will not be extended to the applicant and alternative suggestions/arrangements made Note however some units may not permit alternative arrangements under professional requirements e.g. First Aid. Students will be informed of this, prior to commencement Delivery Mode Blended model: • face-to-face, supervised in the SMTB classroom

Work based

  • 240 hours of work placement with a regulated education and care service Pathways Pathways into the qualification There are no stipulated mandatory entry requirements in the training Package SMTB Registration Requirements

1. Age: 18 years +

2. LLN skills that allow them to read and interpret work place documents including legislation, policies and procedures, reports, official information, plans,

3. Have an aptitude and an interest to enter and work in the early child care industry at a supervisory level SMTB Preferred Entry Pathways

4. Previous training at a certificate level in Early Child Care and Education would be an advantage

5. Previous work experience in Early Child Care and Education would be preferable

Pathways from the qualification

Students graduating with a competent result in all units will receive a CHC50113 Diploma of Early Child Care and Education. Students not receiving a competent result for all units will receive a Statement of Attainment
